I just received this from a friend about Tiny Tim who was an eyewitness at the Grange hall when he collapsed:
RE Tiny Tim’s collapse- I was there. He was "escorted" down the aisle [to the stage] of the Grange with a person on each side of him for support. Obviously he was too ill to walk by himself. They got him on stage, somehow. He stood there, ramrod straight, looking dazed and grabbed the microphone stand for support as he fell face first from the stage all the way to the floor, still grabbing the stand. Just toppled over like a tree; straight over without putting his hands out to try to break the fall. I’ve never seen anything like it. He had not started performing and was not holding a uke -- just the mic stand!
He died two months later when he collapsed on stage while performing Tiptoe Through the Tulips. His final words, after being asked if he was alright by his wife: "No, I’m not!"
The Grange was mentioned in the Valley Advocate last week. Apparently in 1996 Tiny Tim had a heart attack there. Never knew.
From Tiny Tim’s Wikipedia entry:
----------------------
In September 1996, [Tiny Tim] suffered a heart attack just as he began singing at a ukulele festival at the Montague Grange Hall (often confused in accounts of the incident with the nearby Montague Bookmill, at which he had recorded a video interview earlier that same day) in Montague, Massachusetts. He was hospitalized at the Franklin County Medical Center in Greenfield, Massachusetts for approximately three weeks before being discharged with strong admonitions to no longer perform due to his state of health and the difficulty of proper dietary needs for his diabetic and heart conditions
