April at the Thrive Project

Greetings all,

Spring is here! Just yesterday, I saw the first crowns of skunk cabbage busting through the dead leaves. The robins are back. My crocuses weathered the epic-fail of a forecast on the 1st. And Thrive is gearing up for some great Spring programming! See our site for details.)

On Monday the 11th, join Anne Harding for a hands-on Ukrainian Egg Decorating Workshop (5-9pm, drop in any time during that span) that will introduce you to the beauty and precision of the ancient tradition of Pysanky—these eggs are decorated using wax resist dying techniques that begin with writing on an egg with wax using a special stylus called a kistka. The workshop will provide all materials and tools required for participants to make their own “Psyanka” egg in the traditional Ukrainian style. (Plan on spending an hour to create one egg.)

On Wednesday the 13th, Montague Community Television will be holding an information session ffrom 7-9 pm or anyone interested in learning more about the opportunities for producing and developing TV shows through MCTV.

Our GCC Spring Sampler continues on the 20th from 7-9 pm, with visitors from the Law and Engineering Departments, in addition to Admissions and Financial Aid. This is a great opportunity to see if GCC might be your next best step.

And finally, the Thrive Project is turning half a year old - that's right, Thrive turns .5! We are celebrating our first half-year with a Show at the Rendezvous on Saturday night, April 30. Come for readings, music, and a dance par-tay that will start at 10. More info to come.

We are trying to schedule a field trip on an April Friday to MASS MoCA; please contact me (by replying to this message) if you are interested! In the past we've had interest but not commitment to a date; we need both to make this happen. We'll likely leave at 10am and be back by 4pm, provide transportation, and pay the admission. Let's make it happen!

Additionally, we will be continuing our Sunday afternoon Franklin County Drawing Posse, our Monday and Wednesday night Homework Lab for students of all kinds, as well as our monthly Book Group, Music Exchange, and Dress for Success programs. (see link to our site in first para. for more).

Coming up in May: Job Interview workshops, a Footbag-(aka hacky-sack)-making workshop (just in time for green grass!), and our third GCC Spring Sampler.

Please pass this on and thanks for helping us spread the word!

All the best,
Liz Gardner, Program Director
