Mutton and Mead weekend

GGarrison Fantastic weekend. Thank you Mik... I appreciate the logistics, commitment and frustration of bringing something this big to our community. And as a non-profit....speechless.

It was Great!

Holy Smokes closed!!! Mutton & Mead last chance!!

mik In case you didn't catch them, Holy Smokes Deli closed their doors for good last week. Yes, this is very bad news for the Valley, and Montague residents in particular. Like many of you, my first reaction was:

Noooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!

But all hope is not lost. Holy Smokes BBQ will make one last appearance on this earth at the Mutton & Mead Medieval Featival. This will be their last appearance, ever.

Get discount tickets today at http://MuttonAndMead.com and go visit Lou and Leslie at the festival for one last taste. I know I will. Lances o' Lamb!!

Notes about Mutton & Mead

mik Art and Mike,

Thanks for your offers, however we only got 100 this year and all but 20 are deployed. Those remaining 20 will be put out next week with giant arrows on them in all the local spots to direct traffic to the correct location (last year lots of people went to the TF rod & gun club!).

Notes about Mutton & Mead

I second Art's comment. If you have extras my yard is always open.

On a related note, I was with two people at two different times yesterday and both coincidentally asked me if I knew what Mutton and Mead was because they had seen the signs. They're working for you guys for sure!

Is the golfcart place on Wells St. in Greenfield still in business?? Or maybe borrow a couple from the Thomas Memorial and the ones in Greenfield and Gill.

mik Speaking of, where would we rent longer stretch-like golf carts around here? Something that will hold like 8 people.

Getting postcards out

In theory, most school districts want things sent home to be approved by the superintendents. However this is not always practiced. It really helps to get class counts of how many students are in each class and have the cards be counted out. School secreataries are overwhelmed at the best of times, and the end of the year is worse. Don't forget school is almost over...

Getting postcards out

Back when I worked at Montague Center School, people would bring in stuff all the time to the main office to hand out. As long as it was something beneficial to the students and the town in someway, we would hand them out. I would suggest just stopping by each school.

Getting postcards out

mik Mutton & Mead would like to include their promotional postcard in the weekly backpack newsletter local schools put out. We can provide the cards, but need to know where to send them. If you have a connection at a local school in Franklin County, please contact me. I will get you the appropriate stack of cards.

Notes about Mutton & Mead

mik Residents of the Connecticut River Valley,

Mutton & Mead is again a fundraiser for the Foodbank of Western Mass and the Montague Grange.

Same as last year, if you bring canned or boxed food, you get $1 off per two cans/boxes, up to $3-off total. While this may seem like not the best deal, the festival IS a food fundraiser.

Last year we raised 1,700 pounds of food for the Turners Falls Survival Center. We'd like to more than double that this year, since the festival runs two days this time. Let's see if we can hit a ton a day!

Also, Mutton & Mead cut a $1,800 check for the Montague Grange. We hope to be able to give them more than double that as well.

To do that, we need EVERYONE to come out to the festival, which is on Saturday and Sunday, June 23rd and 24th, from 10:00 am till 6:00 pm.

Gate fee is $15 for adults and $10 for kids and seniors. In addition to the food donation discount, you can also look for the $1-off postcards that are floating around town. I'll make sure to put a stack at Greenfield Savings Bank in TF and at the Voo and Burrito Rojo.

Some things to note:

(1) NO PETS. That means dogs, cats, or snakes (yes, someone brought a snake last year).

(2) DO NOT BRING ALCOHOL. You can buy beer, mead, wine, or whatever else you like inside. You cannot BYO.

(3) If it's a sunny beautiful day like last year, bring a hat and sun screen. You'll be outside for many hours, too distracted by the jousting, juggling, acting, singing, demonstrations, wenches and mud shows to notice you're slowly getting a sunburn on your nose.

(4) Bring a camera. If you have a smart phone you should take photos and upload them to our Facebook page to enter in the photo contest for free tickets next year. And don't forget to "check in" when you get there. Let everyone know you're there!

(5) You do not have to dress up in medieval garb, but if you have anything that at least gives it a nod, like a cape or a leather vest if you're a guy, or a frilly shirt or bustier or flowing skirt if you're a gal, that always helps get you in the mood.

(6) Bring CASH. The gate does not take credit cards, nor the bar or many of the vendors.

See you on Sat/Sun, June 23/24! It's going to be a great day.

handicap

mik There will be handicap parking near the ticket booth for people with handicap stickers or rear-mirror hangers only. We had two golf carts last year and will have more this year, hopefully a golf club-cart that will hold more people.

The driveway isn't that long, but it is certainly long for those with canes or other mobility problems.

mark2 There will be golf carts or UTV's there that will pick you up at your vehicle and bring you down the long driveway into the event like last year. Hopefully this year they will have more transport vehicles.
