Idea

Have you seen the two houses battling for the best Holiday lights here
on Griswold Street in TF?
Take the kiddies or yourself to see them.
There must be a story behind it!
Photos would be good with night film too.

I think the Sisson's, on the corner of Dell and Letourneau Way, have a grey cat. You could check w/them.

One other thing

I think we can kiss the Montague Plains forests goodbye too. Wendell State Forest has already been logged to supply a biomass burner in Portsmouth, NH.

One other thing

junkman OH...... And one more thing..... There is enough hot air generated on this board at times that could power up the county.....

One other thing

junkman Edwina, Exactly my point!!! On another note, several people within Franklin County depend on wood to heat their homes... What do you think will happen to the people who rely on this kind of heat in the future if such a project like this is to go through...Its a "NO BRAINER""!!!!!

getting your corkboard posts into the best spot

Edwina, Greg, Mike, Diane, et al. -- I think you all posted on the Montague Reporter's section of the corkboard today by mistake. You probably just replied to another message and the subject for that one "stuck" to your post. There are at least two good reasons to make sure your post goes into the most appropriate category:

One is that you will will get your messages to more interested people if you post them to an area that makes sense for your topic. I think all of your messages really belong under Montague-Palooza, which is the area for general discussion.

The other reason is that when you post to the Montague Reporter area of the corkboard, your message ends up on the mini-corkboard in the Reporter's part of the site (click the Montague Reporter link on the left side of the screen to see.) This means that when folks who are interested in the newspaper find this site, they find your mis-categorized posts on the page instead of articles!

For now, I'm going to try to pull some strings and arrange to move the posts about the biomass plant and the lost cat onto the Montague-Palooza part of the corkboard, where more people will see them. For the future, if you need more explanation about how to choose the area in which you put your post, I'd be happy to walk you through it.

One other thing

Junkman you talked about black stuff eating into the paint on your car. The fine particulate from the smoke stack will be breathed into our lungs. Then it will get into our blood and into our organs, and that will be far worse than seeing what it does to our car paint.

biomass plant (or ’the forest incinerator, as I’m now calling it’)

junkman I can second that! I am totally against it!!!! The fallout is one of the reasons, and the raping of the forests is the other. Years ago I had worked at a papermill sometimes on the 3rd shift. Each and every morning after getting relieved for the day I would always observe tiny black particles on the hood of the vehicle I was driving. After time these tiny particles would eat their way into the paint and then metal. Just think what types of fallout would be generated from the boihazard, I mean bioplant??? Think clean air!

biomass plant (or ’the forest incinerator, as I’m now calling it’)

GGarrison you are a very wise person. Thank you so much. I would love to hear from some other folks in Turners Falls about what they think. You will be getting the worst fall out. Come to the ZBA meeting on Tuesday 05/26/09 at 7P.M.

You will see many hundreds of huge trucks full of chipped wood going West on Route 2 and perhaps through down town Turners Falls. They most likely will be covered but some dust and chips might escape. Some of the dust could come on the wind down onto Turners and Gill also.

biomass plant (or ’the forest incinerator, as I’m now calling it’)

GGarrison I am not a proponent of the Bio Plant in Greenfield for several reasons. For the sake of brevity there are two primary reasons. One, it is not "Green" technology. Two, fallout for the incinerator. This whole plant is a ecological waste.

Here is the fallout for our drinking supply on a regular west/northwesterly wind flow. We have enough pollutants making there way up the valley without this monster in our back yard.

biomass plant (or ’the forest incinerator, as I’m now calling it’)

Last night the people who are opposed to the forest incinerator, as I am now calling it, had a gathering at the Four Leaf Clover. There were around forty of us there and we had a guest speaker by the name of Hillary Lister who lives in Athens, Maine. She is a very eloquent speaker and her goal is to organize New England wide to teach people the hard facts about these forest burning monsters. She has researched her subject, lived it, and campaigned against it for years. They were successful in closing the one in Athens down.

Tomorrow morning Drew Hutchinson and Susan Laing are introducing a new program at GCTV called "Think Out Loud". Anyone in the area is invited to come to the studio at 393 Main Street on the third floor in Greenfield to be part of this. Arrival time is 11 A.M. and once the show begins then the doors are shut. It is wheelchair accessible. Come on time so you get in.

Panelists for this show:
David Baumann--Green Berkshires board member
Hillary Lister--Biomass researcher and citizen leader from Maine
Chris Matera--Founder of Massachusetts Forest Watch
Margaret Sheehan--Environmental lawyer specializing in water resources

If you can't be there you can e-mail your questions to vermontlives@gmail.com They will get asked if there is time.

You will get a lot of information from this panel. You will be shocked with what Hillary tells you. This is a matter of concern to all of you in Montague, Gill, and Erving. The toxic fall out from these incinerators is coming your way and it is highly carcinogenic.

Hope to see you there

Does anyone know when the balconies were removed from the Colle Opera House, and what happened to the five large chandeliers that once hung there?

Yea...Spring...

I’m sure we are all feeling a little relief, watching the snow melt, wearing lighter jackets and driving with a little more ease..kind of. Now that the weather is warming our young drivers can put the windows down and once again subject us all to the incessant booming that emits from their moving vehicles, it’s a catch twenty-two. Yea spring...Boo, incessant booming...
I’ve watched the reaction of an older individual, stopped at a red light at an intersection when a car with several young people in it pulls up behind, bass booming, vibrating everything in the vicinity. Startled, the mature driver reacts first by searching for the source of the horrible disconcerting noise and pounding in his/her chest, wanting to escape the discomfort of this invasion and putting up his/her window, with their right foot hovering the gas pedal (I’m sure) awaiting the chance to escape the intrusion.
Several people in other cars and/or walking, peering at the individuals in the vehicle that’s causing the disturbance. A disappointed look is not effective in making these and many other inconsiderate people, TURN IT DOWN.
I was in Springfield, parked on State Street and I saw a Springfield Police Officer hand signal a vehicle (with the booming) to pull over and he cited them for the loud booming...yea.
I visit OOB every summer and the last two visits were so much less chaotic due to the new enforced `decible’ law. How nice...and considerate of the motorists that prefer to not be bombarded by bass.
Oh what a wonderful world it would be to have warm weather without the incessant booming... booming...booming...

Looking for help.

The holiday season is coming upon us, I’m hoping that there is someone or a couple of people out there that could give some time and skill to help a family . One family member is unable to walk and is in a wheel chair, a local organization has donated the materials to build a ramp for accsess in and out of the home. Family is trying to locate some one who would donate their time and skill to build the ramp for them. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.
