Parade

The police department should be in charge of traffic flow. Talk to Chris and see what he says about next year

Parade

mark2 Signs would have been nice. It just seemed like there was little to no thought given to how they would deal with the traffic.

"Maybe a couple of signs at Randall and Hatchery Roads mentioning Greenfield as a good alternative for parade avoidance."

That sounds like a very sensible suggestion ...

Parade

the parade itself was well advertised. If you were interested the route I am sure was easy to find. The problem was if you were not interested and did not plan on a delay or detour to get where you were going it was a pain especially to those people along Turners Falls Road South of Turnpike road.

I like a parade but sometimes life takes precedence..

Parade

Well, that doesn't sound too bad. Especially for an event that provides so much fun for so many local folks.

What's the problem?

Parade

mik The route crossed Turners Falls Road twice, which meant that twice all traffic on that road had to wait for a gap to shoot across (with the police's direction, of course). The parade was 25 minutes front to back. Watch for it on MCTV soon.

Parade

"It basically screwed up traffic flow from montague to rest of world north."

What roads, specifically, were blocked? I understand that the route was from Sheffield School along Crocker Avenue to Montague Street, then up to the safety complex, along Turnpike Road to Millers Falls Road, down to Scotty's, and then back to Sheffield.

So, if you wanted to drive down Montague Street, or go past Scotty's to downtown Turners, you were out of luck, but was it possible to go down Turners Falls Road to the safety complex and then take a left on Turnpike Road? If so, could you have gone down Oakman to Crocker Avenue and then picked up Turners Falls Road down into the center?

Just curious ....

Parade

mik ... and a route that would bring the parade-people-animal-things back to the starting point without needing to take a taxi.

It's only once a year....

Parade

Heard they needed to avoid hills as things, people, animals slide on floats...

Parade

mark2 I must say I wish they chose a better route. It basically screwed up traffic flow from montague to rest of world north. Just saying.

Parade

Many thanks to everyone who came out today to the 2nd annual Spring Parade! What fun we had! An extra huge thank you to the Montague Police for making the parade safe for us all with the traffic control. It is extremely appreciated!
