Local energy production

If everyone did what they could, as far as producing some of their own food, conserving energy, buying used (or sharing uneeded items through freecycle) and helping their neighbors out, we probably wouldn't be in this jam as a country. I just read a book (from the library) called Less is More, which was a collection of essays, and one of them talked about a Scandinavian term (Norwegian? Swedish?) that we don't have a direct translation for in English, but it basically means having enough. Not excess and not too little, but just enough to get by comfortably. If that was the norm, we would not see the huge disparity that we have in this country of the haves and have-nots.

One thing I really like about Montague is that we seem to fit that moral code. Not that we don't also have those living in poverty, because we certainly do, but there are a lot of folks here willing to help out - from church organizations to dedicated volunteers at the Survival Center as well as business owners and farmers who give back to their community, not to mention groups like the Brick House and the Thrive Project. We do what we can to help on a local level, and I'm extremely proud of that.
