North Street parking clarification

Just wondering if the town leash laws still apply? The land is in fact in the town of Montague. And dog poop is waste which is prohibited .

North Street parking clarification

North Street "conservation" area is a Widlife Managment Area. Below is a link to the summary of regulations applicable to WMAs. Please note there is nothing in these regulations which prohibits off-leash dogs in WMAs. Shotguns and bow and arrow hunting are allowed.

North Street parking clarification

MontagueCenterMan You know, before they put that silly azs gate up there, there were no problems. One could drive right down there, parking was never crowded or an issue, and I never saw bottles or trash, people that knew of the spot respected it. Now with the gate... problems. I say ' OPEN the gate!' please.

North Street parking clarification

Mark1 I checked out the signs on North St. yesterday. It's pretty confusing.

There are two new "No parking from here to the end of the road" signs, followed by signs that say "no parking between THESE TWO signs" followed by a spray painted Jersey barrier at the end of the road, but off to one side, that screams "NO PARKING." And then for good measure someone spray-painted a bunch of random rocks, rubble, and sign posts dayglo orange.

Either we have a pretty slapdash highway department at work or a grumpy parking vigilante...any guesses as to which it is?

I can walk to the conservation land, so none of this matters to me.

What does matter is this: we have a public resource open to all - not a private club for those in the know - and no clear instructions to visitors on where to park without getting parking tickets.

I witnessed the police writing tickets a few Sundays ago, even on cars that were parked off the road in the dirt area in front of the path - which should be allowed, in my opinion. That's not North Street any more. That's state land.

It seems like the simplest and clearest solution would be to post signs - facing oncoming traffic, not under trees alongside the road - stating that conservation area visitors need to park by the common or in front of the library. Some dog walking clubs do that already. Of course that begs the question of what are groups of dogs doing running off-leash in a wildlife conservation area...but that's another violation for another time.

North Street parking clarification

Just because something is a public road (or "way"), it's not necessarily okay to park along it. For one thing, parking is not likely to be allowed if it blocks the travel lane, and once you leave the asphalt there is no guarantee that you are still on the public way (it depends on how it's laid out). Also, some public ways with what appears to be plenty of space are posted for no parking -- an example is Rte 2A near the Airport Creamee, which is posted due to traffic concerns.

If you really want an authoritative answer, I'd suggest you talk to the highway superintendent, and if that doesn't work then go to the selectboard.

North Street parking clarification

Mark1 People park in front of our house all the time for church events, road races, Old Home Days, May Day, etc. Can't get the grass to grow in the devil strip. It's part of living in a village.

Why should North Street be any different?

North Street parking clarification

It is unclear to me where it is officially okay to park at the end of North Street leading to the conservation land. In the past, there have been some what looked like some unofficial no parking signs there, then, more recently, some official looking signs stating "no parking from here to end of street." Does anyone know why that portion of North Street is no longer a public road? Don't we all still pay taxes for it?

Today, it appeared that whoever lives at the end of the street spray painted, not only sticks and large rocks on their own property and others, but a concrete abutment and the state sign for the conservancy bright orange red. Isn't this defacement of public property?

Could someone official please clarify?
