Missing Dog

Just asking for people to look out for a light colored Cairn Terrier. He just bolted from the house in Lake Pleasant after a groundhog. We've driven around but cannot locate him. Please call if you see him. 367-9722 Thank you.

hunting mushrooms (to eat)

I only pick 3-4 types. Would like to know more. I bought a book on edible ones but I don't trust myself to judge. One of the ones I pick looks just like the DEADLY one (red-top with gills). The skirt at the base is how I tell. Must be the right one because I'm still here. My Dad, rest his soul knew them all. Too bad I didn't pay closer attention.

Who picks up after the dogs at a dog park? I doubt anything would change. Put up a few of those game cameras up and post photos of folks that don't pick up after Fido. That would also identify the offenders .We bring stuff to the Survival Center on occasion and have to dodge the land mines all over the street so it's not only at the park.

Please be a responsible dog owner

Actually, you do need to pick up after your dog. When you go into the Clerk's office to obtain your dog license there is paperwork right on the desk stating so. You can be fined.

Please be a responsible dog owner

mickjen We need a dog park, desperately. I always scoop my poop, and Montague does have a leash law (Greenfield has a 50 ft verbal leash law). We have beautiful parks, but they are not dog-friendly. I'm tired of dealing w mud, goose poop and hazardous conditions because I try to avoid populated areas. We dog owners pay to register our kids, how about a park for OUR kids?!

Please be a responsible dog owner

Mark1 What the town regulations state is that your dog needs to be under your control at all times on public land. That means on leash if you don't have complete voice control over your dog.

Voice control is not yelling "don't worry, he's friendly!" from across the field while your dog jumps all over someone's kid.

Just a reminder that it is spring and children are playing at our local parks and fields, whether it's a day with the family or being engaged in a Park and Rec activity. Town fields and parks are great to let your dog run, but please pick up after them. Coaching girls softball can be frustrating when the first part of practice we have to walk around and pick up dog poop because dog owners have not done so. It's gross and extremely unsanitary and there is also an ordinance against this. So, please, please pick up after your dog.

Old Bitzer place

Mark1 LOL, Garth.

They're taking it apart stick by stick. That takes a lot more time and labor than scraping it. I'm wondering if it's a salvage operation or just a sweat equity/cheapskate project?

Old Bitzer place

'cause it would cost more to fix? The place was kind of a disaster.

Mark1 Anyone know why someone is meticulously dismantling the old Bitzer house on Hatchery Road?

FOUND: black leather cell phone case on the Ave

mickjen Found a black (real) leather cell phone case, EMPTY, of course, in front of the Turners Post Office today. I think the brand name was Urbia. I assume it was off a stolen phone, but the case is at the PO, if that helps anyone!

It's too bad I assume it was stolen and anytime I see the MPD K9 unit in front of a business during daytime, that they too, have been hit by thieves.

Soap Shop Moving

Lisa’s Handcrafted Soap is moving. Recently she and her husband purchased a farm where they will be growing and selling gluten free, gmo free and organic food items. This will be the soap shop’s new home. So, until the new structure is built, the soap shop on 3rd Street will only be open on Saturdays 9-5 starting April 1st. Of course soap can still be ordered online or by phone and for your convenience, orders placed within 15 miles, Lisa will offer free delivery. You can still call Lisa with your special orders, baskets and party favors at 863-5252. Soap classes and birthday parties will still be available. Thank you for your support and business.

NEFC update

mark2 I contacted Wendy Bogusz at the town via a phone call. She told me to send her an email request for the info on The NEFC. I did this yesterday and as of yet ZIPPO info has been sent to me. I realize this might take time, I will just have to wait and see. I'm not holding my breath that's for sure.

Great skating at the school pond

Mark1 Fresh ice over at the MC School pond, thanks a ton to the MCVFD for the hosedown last night!

Get your skating in before it's buried under the 2-3 feet of snow that some insane people are predicting for Friday night!

Windy walk along the canal

Just got back from a rain-walk along the canal path. The undulating mirror-art installation is doing BEAUTIFUL things in the wind. I didn't realize the mirrors are hinged, and they're winking white / gray / black as they flip in the wind.

Might make a great video. And it certainly makes a great destination for a walk in the rain right now! Thanks, River Culture!

Lawn tractor service

Mark1 It may be a haul but I bring my mower and blower to Boyden and Perron in Amherst. They're no-nonsense, very dry, Yankee folk. I've been satisfied with their work.

Lawn tractor service

patrick Is there anywhere that is good and reasonable to service a John Deere lawn tractor? We've been less than enthused with the large place on Rt. 63.
