Protect our Water Petition

Our water resources—lakes, rivers, streams, springs, and aquifers—are essential for the well-being of our communities and the ecological systems that nourish all life.  As it is our duty to protect them we, the undersigned, urge our Governor, State Legislators, Exec. Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, and all its departments, specifically the D.E.P. and Division of Fisheries and Wildlife to:

1)  Develop and implement legislation to forever prevent the withdrawal of water from the aquifers that exist beneath our communities as common water sources, and their associated springs for re-sale at a profit;

2)  Honor their responsibilities as stewards of our natural resources by prohibiting all water withdrawals from all protected public lands, except for public use in dire emergencies when there are no alternatives;

3)  Say “No” to Nestle’s attempt to exploit the springs on the Montague Plains and at Wekepeke in Sterling .
