Tuesday and Wednesday remain the same. Thursday will be picked up on Friday and Friday will be picked up on Saturday.
Recycle Center will be open on regular schedule.
* the "Message" box for creating new posts is very small -- 3 5/8" wide by 3/4" high on my monitor. Makes it impossible to see a post that's more than a few words, which makes proof-reading and editing cumbersome. Can it be made bigger?
* The "Submit Post" button is way down at the bottom. If you're replying to a long message, you have to scroll down to find it. Could it be located nearer the top?
Thanks, Stash! The link has been put into the blue box on the side. We'll continue working on the upgrades on and off for the next several weeks. Wish we had started the upgrades last summer so we'd've been done in time for the 20th anniversary of MontagueMA last October, and fully upgraded by February of this year... just in time for the COVID lock-down. Ah well. The future is still open. 25th anniversary in October 2024!
Hey folks, just to let you know, we're finally beginning to do some visual upgrades on the website code (which also runs leverettma.net, shutesburyma.net, greenfieldma.net etc) and will also be upgrading some of the functionality, such as commenting on posts instead of creating new, linked posts as a reply. we'll also be simplifying how rights and roles work in the back-end (for any admins out there reading this) and generally making it more dynamic and mobile friendly. Why let Facebook have all the fun?

Hey everyone. Just an early warning that the programming behind MontagueMA.net and all the other community websites I host using this code will start changing, fairly drastically, in the next couple months.
The plan is to make it easier to use, and more 21st Century social media -ish, like Facebook, Twitter, Diaspora, and others. Many of the fine-grain settings will go away, and new features will come in, like supporting #hashtags and @usernames.
We will utilize Bootstrap as the user interface framework, and streamline the website's layout to be simpler and faster loading. It will work very well on a smartphone and tablet.
Any ideas, wishes, suggestions, etc., will be entertained.
I know you contacted me about this some time ago and I assure you, I did not tag any MontagueMA emails as Spam, but somehow, my spam filter got the wrong idea.
It is a pain when this happens. Sometimes people registering for Gill Energy Commission workshops go to the junk mail folder and i can't guess why.
I have to say, it's pretty upsetting to me when people who sign up on this website and indicate they want to receive all posts by email -- then click the "THIS IS SPAM" button in their email program, instead of coming back to the website and simply change their settings.
When you tell AOL or Yahoo or Comcast or Hotmail that the email you receive is spam you are actually asking them to block ALL EMAILS from my server to their server. That includes my other customer's legitimate emails out to the world, and other users of this website who subscribe and happen to also be on AOL or Yahoo, etc.
I don't get paid to run this website. Please don't hamper my living by taking the short cut.
Hey folks. You may have noticed lately that this website would be down for some reason or another. We have been working on the problem on and off, and this afternoon decided to change the application server software from a free version of the CF language, called Railo, back to Adobe's ColdFusion 9. Yup, we went out and bought a copy for $500 and popped it in.

One of the features that has been asked for by Patrick Pezatti is to be able to respond to messages posted here via email. That is something I'm seriously considering.

Hey, MontagueMA.net is turning 15 years old in October. I'm thinking a couple things...
1. We should have another party. How does Thursday, October 16 work for everyone? And, where should we have it?
2. It's time for a technology upgrade. What one or two features would you most like to see in this website, specifically how it works? A like button? Better mobile interface? Better dealing with pictures? Better linking with people / accounts?
Hey folks. A couple people have told me that they post stuff to the corkboard and then don't see it come up right away... sometimes not for another ten minutes. Yes, that was by design to help make the website faster.
I have changed the website code a little bit so if you're logged in you will see everything as fresh as it can be... but the site will be a little bit slower. Once you log out things will speed up a little again.
It's hard to believe anything on the Internet can be so old, but yes, MontagueMA.net will turn 15 years old this October. I'm thinking we should have another party like we did for the tenth anniversary. Maybe not a live band and all the hi jinx we had back then, but something.
I'm also thinking that the website hasn't changed very much since then, and that I should update the code a bit and probably remove some stuff that isn't used.
Any thoughts on those two topics?

Today two users of this website emailed me saying they were receiving a pop-up when they tried to post to the MontagueMA.net corkboard:

We do not have anything to do with Botsby.com. If this happens to you and you don't recognize that website address DO NOT ENTER IN YOUR USERNAME AND PASSWORD.
I've done some quick Internet searches and found that this is an error that has been thrown by Zimbra, a web email package some ISPs have offered to their customers, and which was purchase by Yahoo some time ago and is now in use by their Yahoo groups.
It is possible that the error may only show up for people who have the Yahoo toolbar installed in their browser. It may be experiencing some technical difficulties.
It is also possible that those people have a virus on their machine. We suggest downloading one or both of these free (PC) programs, installing and running a full system scan.

Montague WebWorks will be moving its servers to a cloud environment in March
After five years of hosting our websites on a single server (or even a shared server, back in the old days) Mik Muller of Montague WebWorks decided it was time to take the next step in the evolution of Montague WebWorks -- to move up to the cloud.
The big move will start Friday morning, March 15th, and continue through Sunday evening, March 17th. Every website and email we host will move from our existing servers to our new Cloud Servers. There should be no interruption of service, though we ask you to bear with us.
What are Cloud Servers?
Cloud Servers are the same as regular servers, except that a very large number of them are tied together through networking and software to act as a larger, faster single server, that you can then take a "slice" of as a virtual single server.
The main benefit of this is that upgrading to more processing power and storage is literally a mouse-click away, rather than physically cracking a server case open and adding resources to a single box.
This means that, for Montague WebWorks, we will be moving from ONE server that hosts all our websites, our databases, our email server, to TWO cloud servers that will each actually be multiple processors spread across many machines. One of the servers will now be dedicated to only hosting the websites, and the other server will host the databases and the email server.
The plan is to further expand, by the end of the year, to a third cloud server so we can split our databases and email server onto separate machines.
And while we're moving up to two cloud servers, we're also upgrading all the software. Our web hosting server software will get a double upgrade -- from IIS 7 to IIS 8, and from ColdFusion 8 to ColdFusion 10 -- and our email server software will upgrade from SmarterMail 8 to Smartermail 11, which has major improvements for mobile devices.
What's the Bottom Line
The bottom line is that everything will become faster. This website will load faster, and if we also host your email, your email will send and arrive faster, and the webmail interface will run faster, and on all your mobile devices.
Montague WebWorks is moving up, and expanding. By the end of April we should have around 150 RocketFusion websites, with a goal of 200 by the end of the year.

I was just looking through the administrative program I use to run all my community websites (MontagueMA.net, GreenfieldMA.net, etc) and saw that this website passed the 3 million page view mark quite a while ago.
We've had 3,652,520 since the website was relaunched in September of 2006 -- a little over six years ago. The website itself is 13 years old as of this month! Woohoo! Who was there for the tenth anniversary party?
Anyway, it's great to see that we're still going strong against Facebook, and we send updates to 100% of the people who want them. :-)
