NO SOUND

Came to the village to watch the TM at 6 last nite. What happened to the volume?? Had to put his volume up all the way and still got REAL low sound and a lot of hum. I know it isn't his tv because every other channel was fine. Anyone???????

Comcast Cable Phone

Just throwing this out for info only... My bro-in-law down Belchertown way has Charter cable. Compaired to what my old dude in the village has( Basic old folks cable) Comcast has them beat by a mile with the channel line up and customer service. Picture is not as crisp either. From what little I've watched the local stuff you folks are LUCKY to have the crew that does MCTV. Took the old dude to Town Mtng and was impressed with the whole deal. Was kinda nice putting faces on some of the folks on here as well.

Comcast Cable Phone

I too received the polling company call referred to earlier. While I agree each should make their own mind up and convey it accordingly but I think it is helpful to have a better understanding of what PEG is so I submit the following; (obtained from Wikipedia via Google)

"Public-access television is a form of non-commercial mass media where ordinary people can create content television programming which is cablecast through cable TV specialty channels..... Public-Access Television is often grouped with public, educational, and government access television channels, by the acronym PEG. PEG Channels are typically only available on cable television systems."

Comcast Cable Phone

And why not tune in to Channel 17 and see what they have to offer! Or get involved while you are at it, and contribute some programming of local or even personal events.
Community TV is a very special resource. Take advantage of it!

Comcast Cable Phone

mik I just got a call from a polling company called RKM Research, taking a poll for Comcast regarding their service in Montague, and specifically regarding Public Access TV and the upcoming contract negotiations with the Town of Montague.

The poll took about five minutes, and fully 2/3 of the questions were about PEG Access TV, how often I watch, and whether I'm willing to pay a little money per month for franchise fees and operating costs for MCTV.

I'm not going to suggest to anyone in any way how to answer that poll, other than to say please, if you have five minutes, take the call and answer the questions. That would be great. It would be a shame if Comcast argued that no one cares about the public's access to the airwaves (PEG Access TV), and pulls all the funding.

Thanks.

Bill, Ted and Alan again on MCTV

Local programming at MCTV over the past 6 years have included the Select Board, School Committee, Finance Committee and Annual town meetings. There has also been a host of sporting events, Coffeehouse concerts, Discovery Center Programs and the list could go on and on. BUT ever once in awhile we got a chance to interview some individuals who were a huge part of this community. Such is the case of three men from Gill that have passed away during this last calender year. Bill Burnham, Ted Graveline and Allan Adie each gave and cared greatly for their community.

This weekend MCTV will be replaying the TV shows that these 3 gentleman starred in. Bill Burnham for the History of the Gill Congregational Church, Ted Graveline for in the Artist Studio and the always man of straight shooting comments,. Alan Adie, who passed away most recently on April 19th. I had the opportunity to be the camera guy for each of these shows along with the help of my co-producer John Duda, who got to do the interviewing.
I have always told people that I have videoed that once MCTV has taped your show we got you for ever and we might replay that program time after time and years into the future. Even now after you have recently left us.

Thank you Bill, Ted and Allan

Community Producer for MCTV

MCCI Proposal to Town for Cumby’s Building

Thanks Mik and everyone else.

Just to be clear, neither the finance committee nor Town Meeting have any say in whether the MCCI proposal goes forward -- that's up to Montague's EDIC, which is a separate body (although two fin comm members -- Andrew Killeen and Lynn Reynolds -- are on it).

Personally, I think the MCCI proposal sounds like a good deal for everyone, if it can work. I haven't studied it any detail,so this is pretty much off the top my head, but one concern is that MCCI might have to abide by prevailing wage laws in any remediation/renovation work it does on the building, which could drive up the cost. A different (but related) concern is that MCCI's money is supposed to go towards providing local cable services to the folks of Montague, and their revenue stream is pretty fixed (I think), so they'll need to make the case that spending that money on the Cumby building is the best use of it in light of their mission.

I've just heard about this, and right now I have no opinion -- I'm certainly NOT saying that I don't think it can be done. But questions should and will be asked, and we'll see what the answers turn out to be. I'm keeping my fingers crossed ... :-)

I have been inside of that building and if they MCTV can move inside and fix it up I'm all for it, otherwise we will have another Railroad Salvage sitting on Avenue A. Art Gilmore

MCCI Proposal to Town for Cumby’s Building

mik > I was there, and Frank had a number of things to say. Any chance you'll share which one you're referring to?

Sure:

After EDIC chair Andrew Killean mentioned that they could return the building to the town to join the growing collection of properties the town owns, Frank Abbondanzio said the following (clip starts at 18:00):

"If the MCTV people are willing to make the lease-holder improvements and serve some kind of public purpose for the community and culture, I think that's not a bad alternative.

"If we're thinking in terms of putting ourselves through an RFP and hoping we're going to get something better down the road... I would say that's not a good idea. If we're going to do that then I'd say tear it down.

"We have four buildings over in Millers Falls we're going to be taking. [...] And there's another item on the warrant for [taking] St. Anne's rectory. [...] The old Cumberland Farms building, no, it's a revenue neutral thing.

"I would not recommend looking for a better deal. After having gone through the Rod Shop and the J Street properties, even the Montague Center School, we had no takers (the first time around, anyway). Even for a good building in good condition!"

mark2 I hope the town does the smart economical thing here, but I'm not holding my breath on that. Good luck Mik. Man I hope this won't lead to another "STUDY"!!!!

MCCI Proposal to Town for Cumby’s Building

Mark1 Seems like he is saying the MCCI proposal is the best deal for that building.

If that doesn't happen he says it should be torn down, rather than become yet another property the town is stuck care taking and wishing for someone to rescue.

MCCI Proposal to Town for Cumby’s Building

mik Last night the Finance Committee met with the selectboard and the chair of the Montague EDIC to discuss the first warrant article at the upcoming Special Town Meeting. They voted in favor of requisitioning $30,000 to demolish the former Cumberland Farms building at 38 Avenue A if the MCCI proposal didn't work out.

In the coming weeks you will hear more about the proposal from MCCI.

You can watch the Fin Com meeting online on MCTV's Vimeo channel. The segment is 25 minutes long.
