Turners Falls -gfld
Any folks on here know of the time line for the repave job. A job that SHOULD have been done before the bridge by the Farren was closed. I took my old dude to an appt. last friday and got hung for over 25 mins. Thank goodness a call to his doctor held his appt. And Gfld wonders why people go north, south or east to shop. At least you can get there and PARK without paying. Thanks, ED

Selectmen
Got a question? How come all the other town committees rotate chairmen every year yet the selectmen don't.? You want to be one but don't want the chair. If you don't think you're qualified to do it , what do you want to be a selectman for? Just asking.

Seeking Reliable Working Used Refrigerator
Hi! Looking for a reliable refrigerator that works well. ASAP!

Need a full-size refrigerator/freezer -- at least 18 cubic feet total. Must have been properly stored -- i.e., NOT sealed shut without electricity. I hope to find one in Montague (any village), Greenfield, Sunderland, or Deerfield, to keep the mover cost reasonable.

THANK YOU FOR ANY LEADS!

Come to a soapbox cart build party at Nova Motocycles on 2nd Street in Turners this Saturday morning at 10:00. There will be some extra bike parts and small lumber on hand and “experts” who may be helpful.

Rest Peace, John Aubry
I was saddened to hear of the passing of Montague Center resident, and our local mayor, John Aubry. When I lived there he was always around on his bicycle keeping me and others up to date on what was going on in the village, though you never heard it from him. If the basement light was on at the Grange, he would bike over and let me know. If a fire truck went by, he would dismount and salute. He was kind and gentle, a real patriot, and will be missed. I’m glad I knew you, John.

Looking For Bike Parts
Hey all. The Montague Soapbox Race is back on this coming September, and my buddy Ben Goldsher is entering a cart for Hawks & Reed. He has enlisted the help of Ben Mailloux of Half Pint Homes to build it, and we’re looking for a used bike. Willing to pay, but a donation would be accepted as well. Any kind of bike will do, though a kids bike with foot brakes would be higher up our wish list.

Also, if any one out there wants to enter a cart, too, or maybe be a sponsor of some kind (the race is a fundraiser for Parks & Rec), you can check out https://MontagueSoapboxRaces.com for more info.

There will also be a race in Greenfield the Sunday before. https://GreenfieldSoapboxRaces.com If you’re building a cart, you may as well race in both.

Or… give us you’re unused kids bike. :-)

For Contractors/carpenters: Garage Available
New homeowners in Montague Center are hoping to remove a garage to open a view from the house. Garage itself is in good condition, and could be reassembled elsewhere or wood/etc from it could be used for other projects. One end is attached to what used to be an outside wall of the house. One corner on that wall has a complicated intersection of the garage roof and gable with the roof of a screen porch. Anyone with the expertise to do it would be welcome to decouple the garage from the house and remove the garage in exchange for taking it for themselves. (If appropriate, the same person could be hired to refinish the newly exposed sections of roof and add several windows.) Text 4136873088

Need Battery-powered Weed Whacker Brush Cutter
Seeking to borrow or rent (at a modest price) a battery-powered weed whacker or brush cutter (hand-held type, not mower style). Needs to come with two batteries, so one can charge while the other is in use. I'll need it for 2 or 3 days.

Also interested in buying one of these used, if in excellent working condition!

Precinct Voters
I have been a Town Meeting member for over twenty years, and I am up for re-election this year. I thought I had done what was necessary for my name to appear on the ballot, but I guess there was a slip-up somewhere because my name is not there.

You can vote for seven people, and there are six names on the list. Please consider writing me in: Michael Naughton, 11 S Lyman St, Millers Falls. I would be grateful for the opportunity to continue to have a voice in the affairs of the town, and to represent the interests of Precinct 2 and the entire town to the best of my ability.

Thank you very much for your support.

"Northern Roots" is a Traditional Music Festival out of Brattleboro VT, featuring a variety of northern musical traditions including Irish, Scottish, English, French Canadian and Shetland. Also up on MCTV is the new video album, "Still Romantics" by Brattleboro musician, Chris Weisman. Weisman collaborated with MCTV as well as with local musician Omeed Goodarzi and audio engineer Elie Mcaffee-Hahn to record a performance that was cancelled due to Covid. The performance was recorded in front of a green screen, allowing each song to become a music video created in a different style. Week February 22-28, 2021
This Week, MCTV is featuring the work of Bret Leighton, former longtime editor and producer at MCTV, who has regretfully passed suddenly. We want to honor him for his years of dedication to the TV station and our community. Three episodes of "The Madison Show", which was produced by Leighton in 2015, are linked to the MCTV Facebook page. The show is hosted by local art legend, Rodney Madison, who tours the camera around the village of Turners Falls, as he visits friends on the street and in his shop, "Madison on the Ave". The Ave looks different these days. Now, "Texture Hair Salon" occupies 100 Avenue A, where next door a new MCTV original is being filmed. Now on it's 5th Episode, "Fabric'sCool", the instructional and anecdotal series by "Swanson's Fabric" owner, Kathryn Swanson, airs on Channel 17 on Fridays at 11:30 am.

In sports, the Turners Falls Girls play basketball against Mahar, and the Boys take on Pioneer. The past three Selectboard Meetings from Gill are now available, as is the most recent video meeting from The Police Equity and Use of Force Advisory Group. All community members are welcome to submit their videos to be aired on Channel 17, as well as featured on the MCTV Vimeo page. MCTV is always available to assist in local video production as well. Cameras, tripods, and lighting equipment are available for checkout, and filming and editing assistance can be provided.

Remote Town Meeting
Just wondering how other town meeting members feel after the two "practice" meetings we had to learn the technology for a remote town meeting. I'm feeling fairly confident that I'll be okay, but there seemed to be a range of abilities, largely based on differences in equipment and internet connections (I was using a Windows 10 laptop with Comcast internet). And a related question: should the goal be to get through the meeting if at all possible, or to make sure that as many members can participate as possible, even if that means postponing the meeting if too many people have problems?

due to snow trash schedule will be off by a day for rest of week.

Also kids get a snow day. I guess if it is not safe for some essential people to get to the physical school then kids still get a snow day even though still in remote learning.

Halloween Storywalk Carnegie Library
While we can’t invite you in for programs right now, we can bring the library outside, to you!

We invite parents, caregivers and anyone who loves books to dress up in their Halloween costumes and stroll along and enjoy the story, at the Carnegie Library. StoryWalk® encourages both adults and children to participate in an activity that encourages physical activity and fosters a child's interest in reading.

Each page is numbered and positioned at least 6 ft. apart. Thank you for wearing a mask if you will be closer than 6 ft. to others outside of your group.

StoryWalk® was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and has developed with the help of Rachel Senechal, Kellogg-Hubbard Library.

Carnegie Library, 201 Avenue A, Turners Falls - 413-863-3214.
