Saturday Afternoon: Block Party Parade Prep!

Have you been procrastinating on your Block Party Parade get up? Then come to the Discovery Center’’s Great Hall this Saturday to decorate a "Fish Stick" to carry in the Block Party Parade on August 9. Materials are provided. This is an all-ages event.

This Weekend: Ja’’Duke Inc. presents Grease!

Come see this classic musical by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey about the way rock and roll changed American sexuality and culture during the pivotal moment when America took its first tentative steps out of the conformity and social/sexual oppression of the 1950s and toward the individualism and sexual freedom of the 1960s.

Next Friday: Block Party Kick Off Celebration!

Get revved up! The Brick House will be hosting a concert as a kickoff to the 2nd Annual Turners Falls Block Party. The show starts at 7:00 and will feature up-and-coming local favorites Touching Mrs. Dash, as well as The Motel Matches, and The Accident That Led Me To The World. This is a substance-free all-ages event. Admission is $5, and proceeds will be split between The Brick House and the performers. Come check it out and whet your appetite for the Block Party. The Brick House is located at 24 3rd St. in Turners Falls. For more information, call Jared or Ruth at 863-9559.

Next Friday: Open Mic at the Great Falls Coffeehouse

Whether you are a musician, or just enjoy listening to local folks perform, join hosts Ferne Bork & Bruce Kahn for an evening of music in the historic Great Hall of the Great Falls Discovery Center, where the acoustics are excellent, the baked goods divine, & the company unparalleled. Ferne and Bruce are accomplished musicians and two-thirds of the Bork, Kahn & Tinen Trio. Ferne was also one of the fabulous judges in this year’’s Valley Idol. Bruce & Ferne will open the evening with a short set.

August 8 at 7pm. The doors open at 6:30, and the concert starts at 7pm. The museum and Museum Store are open to the audience during intermission. There is no charge for performers for the evening, and for everyone else, there is a suggested donation of $6 to $12 to benefit the Discovery Center. The Discovery Center is located at 2 Avenue A in happening downtown Turners Falls, and is wheelchair accessible. For more information, please call (413) 863-3221, ext. 3
